Rejection Letters - Take Heart from Recent Historical Discoveries

Writers are tough people!  Let me explain.  They spend long hours capturing the contents of their souls in words.  They write, edit, re-write and re-edit until their work is a marvelous work of perfection.  They carefully package up this precious work and send it off those lucky publishers knowing this work will benefit any reader.  Then the writer waits patiently for the contracts to come flowing back.  But, to the writer's surprise, all that is received is rejection letter after rejection letter.

Recently, archaeologists found fragments of several fascinating documents while working in the ancient middle eastern village of Typosia which is known for the production of manuscripts in the 1st and 2nd centuries.  For the first time ever translations of these documents have been released.  So, below you will find a few of the translations from the scrolls found at the dig site in what was apparently the file rooms of a few of the document producing companies located in Typosia:

Dear Matthew,
Thank you for submitting your manuscript/artwork.  Your work was given careful consideration but we are sorry to say that we do not feel it is right for our list.

Dear Mark,
Thank you for sending us your work.  Though we must decline the opportunity to publish it, we wish you every success with the project.  Be assured your submission received close consideration.

Dear Luke,
Thank you for your recent submission.  However, it does not meet our editorial needs.  Good luck in placing your manuscript elsewhere.

Dear John,
We received your manuscript.  You will only hear from us if we are interested in further discussion of your submission.

Dear Paul,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your manuscript.  While we have enjoyed reviewing your work, I am afraid it is not quite right for our program.

Of course, this did not really happen!  We all know that Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul all worked through a literary agency - Wright and Wong Literary Agency, LLC.

Writers, you have my respect!
