This is all Exciting
Yesterday I sent off the final payment for my first book, "Just a Quilt?" It's a Children's Picture Book. I decided to self-publish this one. I'll explain why I chose this pathway a another blog. Just a Quilt is seeming very real now. I am very greatful to be working with a great artist, Kim Sponaugle, and a great publisher, Candy Abbott at Fruitbearer. With the book due in print in about February 2009, I have to make sure that I have my act together to market this book. I am looking forward to this with anxiety and excitement.
Like many writers, I have my daytime job that allows me to buy the groceries. I write in any free moments I can find. I believe that in any line of work you have to put in time to develop your skills. You really have to pay your dues. I would love to reap the benefits of a published book immediately but the odds of that happening are small. If you are getting into this world of writing you might as well admit this to yourself right upfront and just be willing to write.
I am now preparing to market "Just a Quilt" and I'm trying to find time to write. It's hard to find the time. For me, it is often in the evenings from about 9 to 11pm and then as much time as I can find on the weekends. Just setting up this web site is a critical piece of my marketing plan but that does not come easy to me. I am not a computer wizard but I need the web site. So, it chews up time.
But, you know what, this is all exciting stuff and I'm learning a ton. I hope to share some of my learnings with you.
